If you arrive by plane and you need a taxi to the city centre, I suggest you check that the price is the "local price" in order to avoid unpleasant extra charges.
Probably it is not an original advise, but I tried the Pizzeria Brandi, where the pizza Margherita was created in honour of Queen Margherita of Italy in 1889: you can find it in Salita S. Anna di Palazzo, 1 (side street of Via Chiaia) – tel.081416928.
Nearby I found a small restaurant, where the majority of the guests are Neapolitans, the Locanda N'Tretella, Salita S. Anna, 25 (side street of Via Chiaia)-tel.081427783.
The owner is really nice and usually suggest the typical Neapolitan dishes: squids with tomato sauce, fried anchovies stuffed with ricotta and provola, octopus salad.
Something delicious is the buffalo mozzarella, which is always fresh and fragrant.
You aboslutely must see the amazing marble statue of Cristo velato and St. Chiara Monastery, which is an impressive and graceful building.
Those, who have a sweet tooth, should then stop off in the nearby Pasticceria Scaturchio in Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, which has been delighting the Neapolitans with its delicious products for more than hundred years. It's worth admiring, and then trying, a huge Vesuvius-shaped babà!
You should also have a walk through Via San Gregorio Armeno, the street of Nativity scenes in Naples. From the Cathedral you can reach the Decumano Maggiore, which is known as Spaccanapoli (via dei Tribunali), and the Decumano Inferiore (Via San Biagio dei Librai): you can't absolutely miss this area and its glimpses of the oldest part of the city.
If you are hungry now, I suggest you visit the nearby Antica Pizzeria dell'Angelo - Piazzetta del Nilo 16 - tel 0815422001. I had never tasted a pizza with the “cornicione”, that is to say a pizza whose border is folded and stuffed with ricotta cheese, ham cream or just cream). Try it!!!
